Staying in an uber-cool, modern and metropolitan city has its perks. For instance, I realised today that Valentine’s Day is an actual celebration / event here. I was equally surprised that ‘Karva Chauth’ – the traditional Indian ritual is celebrated here with such pomp and show. For Valentine’s, you have couples all over the city, meeting and hugging at Metro stations, girls clutching bouquets of roses and bags filled with gifts for their boyfriends, guys clutching roses and waiting for their girlfriends, guys buying flowers from florists who otherwise don’t have much business, teddy-bears, chocolates, girls dressed in all shades of red and pink. It is just uplifting and beautiful to see this display of affection. The radio is constantly belting out love songs, has extremely upbeat RJs espousing love, couples are proposing / expressing their love on air and being treated to freebies like romantic dinners and movies.
